Lee Kuan Yeu is in many ways known for bringing Singapore from a third world country to one belonging to the first world. In fact he wrote a book about the experience which should be a guidebook to other leaders, particularly those from the third world (From Third World to First (Harper Collins Publishers, 2000)). In an interview by Charlie Rose (PBS Channel 13) he spoke of the many aspects involved in the transformation. He underscored the key role of science as an engine to progress and he urged that more attention be devoted to this subject by the leaders of the developing countries.
