INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES

Technology is the mainstay of economic and social progress. Technology is a driving force as we enter the 21st century, both for the developed and the developing countries. The most advanced countries are those which are harnessing technology and harvesting its fruits. Information technologies are dominant in this respect. Developing countries can use technologies to leapfrog so to speak; for instance, countries which have underdeveloped telecommunication systems would not need to invest in extensive and costly cabling and wiring and could more easily go directly to the wireless technologies. In this context, it should be pointed out that, as a result of competition, companies with the technologies are eager to expand and operate on a global basis and know that they can do so with the partnership of other countries. Incidentally, information technologies would also help the developing countries give a boost to their educational systems.
